Georgia Southern University announced Wednesday that classes will be cancelled on all campuses for Friday, Sept. 6.
“This decision comes as we continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian and evaluate its potential impact on the safety of our students, faculty and staff," the statement reads. "We are also concerned about those who need to travel, and we want to allow time for expected clean-up of our campuses."
The university advised students to monitor their Folio accounts to remain up-to-date on their classes.
University officials will make an announcement on Thursday evening about whether, and when, some or all business operations, such as re-opening of dining facilities and the residence halls on the Armstrong Campus, will resume on Friday.
The football game is still on for Saturday at 6 p.m. at Paulson Stadium against Maine.
As of Wednesday morning, Governor Brian Kemp issued a state of emergency over Bulloch County and eight other counties in preparation for bad weather caused by Hurricane Dorian.
