Georgia Southern received verbal commitments via Twitter from two recruits in wide receiver Jordan Bennett and kicker/ punter Dylan Lewis on Saturday for the 2020 season.
Bennett, from Pelham, Georgia, plays cornerback and receiver at his school, while also being a valuable asset on the basketball team. He had a lengthy recruiting process, where he received offers from Sun Belt rival Troy, along with Air Force, Mercer and Tennessee State, among others.
The 6-foot-1 receiver racked up 725 yards and 14 touchdowns during his junior campaign. On defense, he accumulated 16 solo tackles and assisted 12. On the basketball court, he averaged about 11 points per game while playing at the varsity level for all three years.
“I chose Georgia Southern over other schools because they were the first school to start recruiting me in the 10th grade,” he said. “Despite my injury I have, they still believe in me.”
Recently, Bennett fractured his lower tibia. He is on the road to recovery and will be out of his cast in the next coming weeks.
With the second recruit of the night, GS received a commitment from Dylan Lewis, a 2018 All-County Punter of the Year. He finished the season with a 38 yard average, with his longest punt reaching 52 yards.
The East Coweta High School athlete made 25 out of 28 field goals last season, which led him to receive offers from Kennesaw State and Shorter University.
“I chose Southern because I love the campus and the coaching staff made me feel at home,” he said. “The thing I love most about football is the competition and the pressure to make kicks to help my team.”
Both of these athletes will finish up their senior year of high school before enrolling to GS early in December.
