During the 2018 football season at Georgia Southern, freshman running back Andrew Cunningham (25) was redshirted.

Rising redshirt-freshman running back Andrew Cunningham announced his plan to transfer on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

“This has been a very hard decision for me,” Cunningham said in a tweet. “I want to thank Coach Lunsford and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play at the next level. After much consideration, I will no longer be attending Georgia Southern University after this semester and will be exploring other options.”

Cunningham, a Tampa, Florida native, received offers from many schools during his high school campaign including Syracuse, University of Georgia, Purdue, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ole Miss to name a few.

He sat out the 2018-19 season with an injury and was redshirted. Formerly a three and four star recruit, Cunningham is not sure where he will end up next. GS Head Coach Chad Lunsford supports his decision.

“We want to wish Andrew a successful career in whatever he chooses and desires,” Lunsford said.
