Steven Fisk’s 2017-18 season ended with a disheartening performance in the NCAA Regionals in a downpour. The senior golfer has responded by taking home three straight first place trophies, his most recent in the Fighting Irish Classic hosted by Notre Dame.
For the third straight week, Fisk played his game and quietly snuck into first place Monday after his shooting a 65 in the final round. Once he got the lead, Fisk began his ascension and secured his sixth career win with birdies on the final two holes.
"Steven winning three tournaments in a row is incredible and to win this event in the dramatic way he did made his accomplishment even sweeter,” Head Coach Carter Collins said to gseagles. “He has been a great leader for us and continues to grow his legacy within our program."
Through the 54-hole tournament, Fisk had seven birdies and finished 15 under par.
As for the rest of the Eagles, three other golfers finished under par, doing their part to preserve the team’s highest finish of the fall.
Sophomore Avery Price tied the Warren Golf Course record shooting nine-under par for to score a 62 first round. Price cooled down the final two rounds, but did enough to finish tenth in the field.
Finishing third and fourth on the team in the tournament were freshmen Wilson Andress and Mason Williams shooting four-under and two-under, respectively.
Rounding out the Eagles’ lineup with freshman Ben Carr who shot even par on the weekend.
"I'm so proud of Steven and the team on what they accomplished this week,” Collins said. “34-under at this course against this tough field was a wonderful performance and one to remember in the record books."
Illinois won the tournament by 10 strokes and North Carolina finished in third place shooting 31-under par.
The Eagles will wrap up their fall season at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic in Duluth next Monday and Tuesday. GS won the event last year with Fisk shooting 19-under par to win the Classic by 12 strokes.
