Nahas is officially a member of the Chicago Bears organization after a brief stint for the Cotuit Kettleers.

Georgia Southern pitcher Joe Nahas signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs after an impressive showing in the Cape Cod league this summer. He will receive a $135,000 signing bonus, which is the most that a non-drafted free agent has received this year so far.

He announced his signing via Twitter on July 12.

Nahas had a strong two years on the mound for GS, finishing with a 4.78 ERA and 42 strikeouts last season. He played a crucial role in defeating the west division Sun Belt Champions Texas State by throwing two innings and striking out three.

This summer, the rising senior was a standout for the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League. He only allowed three runs and seven hits in his 18 innings of work, while recording 27 strikeouts and a 1.5 ERA.

Former GS teammate Seth Shuman was drafted in the sixth round of the MLB draft. He is currently playing for the Vermont Lake Monsters, the minor league team for the Oakland A’s. You can read more about him here.
