Tatum shooting

Tatum lead the Eagles with 12 points off the bench.

Georgia Southern women’s basketball team losing streak continues as they fell to the Little Rock Trojans 65-49 at home.

The Eagles struggled offensively in this loss as they shot 26.7% from three-point range and 38% overall for the game.

Tatum Barber led all Eagle scorers with 12 points off the bench. Alexis Brown added nine points, Tsubasa Nibet and Jaiden Hamilton both had eight points and seven rebounds respectively.

In the third quarter, Barber scored seven of her 12 points as she shot 3-3 from the field while adding one three pointer. The Eagles outscored the Trojans 17-13 in the 3rd quarter.

“Going into halftime we knew we had to come out stronger than they did because the third quarter is their best quarter and it's our worst quarter so we came out with the mentality that we need to punch first and make the third quarter our best quarter,” Barber said.

The Eagles managed to outscore the Trojans 33-27 in the second and third quarters combined but were outscored 38-16 in the first and fourth quarters combined.

“I felt we did a really good job of fighting back against a strong solid program like that, to go down like we did in the first quarter it took a lot out of us to fight back,” Head Coach Anita Howard said. “We did what we needed to do and compete and try and get back into the game but we were so drained from coming out of that hole we dug in the first quarter so it hurt us in the fourth."

The Eagles also struggled with keeping the ball as they had 20 turnovers with the Trojans capitalizing with 26 points.

“We gotta relax, you know I didn’t think it was a lot of turnovers that Little Rock forced,” Howard said. “There were just some bad things we did, whether we stepped out of bounds or fumbled a bad pass. We’ve just got to learn to value the basketball and right now we’re not valuing basketball enough.“

GS will play Arkansas State at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last time these two teams met, the Red Wolves took home the win on their home court.
